At age 15 I decided that the goal of this lifetime for me was to attain full enlightenment

Did I succeed? Yes. But, I also found out that enlightenment is not at all what I thought it was.

First of all, enlightenment is a very individual thing. Just like some people become doctors and some lawyers and some carpenters like Jesus and some do almost anything you can imagine here on earth, this is also true when they become enlightened.

The other thing I didn't know at age 15 was that enlightenment is a never ending thing. In other words you never stop becoming enlightened because there are literally infinite stages of enlightenment.

Let's look at it this way. You can become enlightened traveling the world. You can become enlightened soul traveling all over the galaxy. You can become enlightened learning to heal people. You can become enlightened doing all these things in the same lifetime if you live long enough.

So, enlightenment is incredibly amazing to contemplate what you can actually do while attaining various forms of enlightenment.

What is the most important thing to know about enlightenment? It's never ending. Because you and I are never ending too.

So, the joy of discovery in enlightenment is what keeps most people going. The joy of learning new and amazing things about yourself and the universe around you keeps you going. And on one level there might be no need to ever die the way technology is presently moving here on earth.
