This is the worst disaster for China since Wuhan in 2019. Unfortunately, the Chinese have zero immunity to Omicron BA.2 which is 30% more contagious even than BA.1 which I believe was about 60% more contagious than Delta. So, it's almost impossible now for any nation to be completely free of Omicron.
The other problem is Sinovac was never given to the elderly population so recently in Hong Kong Bodies in body bags were piling up next to Covid patients in hospitals because there was no room for the bodies at the morgues. So, this is a disaster now not only for Shanghai but likely for all of China.
I have read that China expects to lose about 3 million people the way this is presently going.
Also, even those who got Sinovac (their vaccine) are not immune to Omicron BA.1 or BA.2 because Sinovac is not effective against Omicron at all. So, this is a real Disaster for ALL of China at this point.
