A friend told me that he didn't have enough money to buy gas and food last month

This was distressing for me because this friend is 78 years old and own's his own home that he built himself in the 1970s. But, because he is retired and alone he couldn't afford to buy food last month because he spent too much money on gasoline. It's true he has a 4 wheel drive truck that is somewhat expensive to drive and this likely is a part of it.

I asked him whether he has visited the food bank locally and his answer was "They don't have the kind of food I eat"

Because he is someone that eats ONLY organic foods and likely is a vegetarian. He said, "I eat beans and rice and they don't have beans and rice at the food bank."

But, you also have to realize that this man is 78 years old and set in his ways.

And then you have to think about all the people on earth without enough food now that are prideful of their choices too and whether this pride will kill them during the next couple of years?

Something to think about if you have friends or relatives like this.

I told him he needs to buy something like a used Nissan Leaf that is electric that he could charge from his solar array at home and drive for free. However, I'm not sure I got through to him how important this was during the next few years.

After all, he is 78 years old and set in his ways. So, will my friend survive all this? I'm thinking he will find a way because he has always been very intelligent and resourceful.

But, many people facing these problems might not survive the lack of food for a month or more. Because without food for 3 of 4 days most people get so spaced out they aren't very functional anymore.

Maybe you should check on your friends and relatives to make sure they have enough food during these times?
