This is likely because I have almost always lived near the Pacific Ocean most of my life. For example, my mother regularly swam in the Puget Sound which is generally calm water protected by land and islands near Seattle but still connected to the Pacific Ocean so Ferries and ships can connect to the main ocean or to other islands or lands and to Canada through the Sound.
But also, I was born in Seattle and when I was 4 we moved to San Diego in California because my father wanted to live in warmer temperatures. Also, he liked visiting the deserts because of an experience he had had mining in his Aunt's gold mine there when he was 18 one summer which he remembered fondly.
So, most of my life in Seattle and San Diego and in Los Angeles County and living near San Francisco and living in Hawaii in Hilo, Hawaii and in Hana, Maui and in Paia, Hawaii has all been on the Pacific ocean. And only when I lived in Sant Fe, New Mexico and in Mt. Shasta California was I 100 or more miles away from the Pacific Ocean when I lived in these two places.
So, about 80% to 90% of my whole life has been spent in and around the Pacific Ocean and I particularly like this "Peaceful Ocean" because it makes the weather more mild wherever it is that I have lived. For example, it reduces the snow falling in Seattle to be near the Pacific Ocean and now that I live near San Francisco it reduces the summer temperatures with fog and drizzle a lot too. So, even though I have lived in Los Angeles County where over 100 degree temperatures are common in August through September or October where I presently live we usually don't see temperatures (even for a day) above 80 to 85 degrees. So, where I live most people don't even have air conditioning because they don't really need it living here. However, the family home in Santa Barbara does have air conditioning built in for hot days in August and September which usually happens above 90 or 100 a few days or weeks of the year there.
But still, I have always been happiest living near the Pacific Ocean all my life wherever that was.
