One of my favorite things to do is to walk our dog along the pacific ocean. I usually wear crocs which are "water shoes" in that you can walk through streams with them because they are made of rubber. So, if you get sand or dirt or mud on them you just take a hose to them and wash them off. Or if you get sand in them you also wash them off because they are rubber they aren't going to be harmed by water like most shoes might be.
So, often if it's warm enough I kick off my crocs near the ocean on the beach somewhere and wade in the water as my dog sort of doesn't like to get wet that much because her legs are short because she is a Corgi. So, mostly she doesn't want a wave to cover over her. However, I have had water dogs like a Yellow Lab and a Long Hair German Shepard combined with an Australian Shepard. With them I had to be careful if there were sneaker waves so they wouldn't be washed out to sea. So, in some ways it is better to have my Corgi self protecting herself from waves which might wash her out to sea. Even though the Yellow Lab was 95 pounds I still had to worry about a wave taking him out when he got older near the end of his life. But, the corgi is likely 30 pounds or under that so she is very independent and takes care of herself and is an Alpha Female definitely.
So, walking along the ocean with my corgi lying on her back and wriggling to scratch her back in glee in the sand is always fun to watch. She is so happy every time we go to the beach that her happiness is sort of catching and lifts my spirits too.
With thousands of people dying every day now from the heat worldwide it's nice to have my dog play and lift my spirits. She doesn't know about Covid and she doesn't know about people throwing up and dying in the heat in India or China or Europe or the U.S. so she totally is in the moment with everything and playful.
