Heading home to the coast

We loaded up this morning and visited the Starbucks in Mt. Shasta and headed off down Interstate 5 towards the SF Bay area. What was amazing was how warm it has been this week in Shasta our temperatures were up to the 62 to 63 degrees which is incredibly hot for this time of year. Even as we traveled down Interstate 5 it was up to 73 degrees in some places (in January?) so we knew this was really unusual not just for Mt. Shasta but for all over California. However, Mt. Shasta is also going to see lows later this week in the 20s and the highs around 39 degrees or so. So, we arrived at the perfect time and left at the perfect time. However, if you are a skier this wasn't a good time with so much rain melting the snow and higher temperatures melting the snow too. Yesterday my wife and a friend and I went to Castle Lake. This time we didn't get rained out. However, this time we mostly were just saying goodbye to Castle lake until later in the year (probably May or June at this point).

However, driving down Interstate 5 past Redding and Red Bluff and Williams what was obvious was just how green everything was and how full the Sacramento River is and all the other streams that go under the freeway in various ways besides the Sacramento River.

So, all in all it was a completely beautiful day to travel south to the SF Bay area and the coast where it is supposed to not only rain but to flood some places too. Some parks are closing starting tomorrow because of potential flooding  and trees coming down and potential power outages for the next 24 hours or more. And there also will be minor rain coming down after tomorrow until at least Friday or Saturday and then another storm is coming either Saturday or Sunday but they don't know exactly what that one is going to do yet because it's too far out to predict.
