Because if you convince them what they believe is wrong sometimes they will kill themselves.
Some people have to make everyone suffer the way they are suffering and other people cannot survive this kind of thinking.
It's important to consider that if some people don't believe what they believe that they might not only kill themselves but others too. So, interfering with what people believe is dangerous too.
For example, I don't go to another country and tell people there that what they believe in is wrong. Why? Because I don't want to be killed for doing this.
So, a long time ago I realized that if someone wants to believe the moon is made of green cheese and this helps keep them alive in their lives and happy and they don't hurt anyone because they believe the moon is made of green cheese that "Why not let them believe the moon is made of Green Cheese?" or anything else they believe as long as they are not hurting anyone.
However, then you can study historical wars between religions where one religion wants everyone to believe one way and then another religion wants people to believe another way.
For example, Catholics and Protestants had 100 years wars in Europe over who was right. AND THIS IS PEOPLE WHO BELIEVED 90% TO 95% THE EXACT SAME THING!
