I have been exploring this theme lately because I'm 77 years old and though driving a 4 wheel vehicle is practical for me still (if I want to stay alive) riding a motorcyle at this age is pretty risky and if I want to stay alive for my wife and family I need to think of another way to do this.
I thought of buying an ATV for this experience but I found out you cannot really license them for whatever the reason.
Then I noticed neighbors have golf carts (but I want something I can take or tow or drive to mt. Shasta with me with my Tundra 4 wheel drive truck.
So, at first I thought I would get a Honda 125 because of it's light weight but I haven't done that yet. Then I thought about buying an electric bicycle but I like the Vroom Vroom sound of a gasoline engine better. And I'm not really into something diesel because of the smell of the diesel both of the liquid itself but also the smell as it is being burned through combustion. However, it is also true that European Diesels don't smell because of the technology they use there I have noticed. So, for example, when I have gone to Europe they have given me a diesel car like in Austria I think they gave us a BMW Diesel and in 2011 in England and Scotland they gave us a Diesel Mercedes and in Nice, France they also gave us a diesel Mercedes to rent.
But, American diesels are too smelly for me to want to own them (even though) I likely would be open to renting one for a short time while traveling somewhere in the U.S.
So, I'm still figuring out a way forward that works for me to travel on country roads without a windshield to get that "Wind in your hair" feeling that you get on a motorcycle riding on or off road.
