He talks about being shot by an arrow that hit his face and bounced off his jawbone and came out his neck but because it missed his jugular Vein he didn't die. The other white men cared for him and got a captured Squaw to carry him to civilization where he recovered in San Francisco so he didn't die. To remove the arrow they cut the head off of the tip and then the shaft could slide out where it came into his face. I think this happened in the 1850s so he was a young man here because he was born in 1836 and lived until the 1900s. So, he recovered and even went to England and lived more than 50 years more past this incident.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future

I read the chapter called "My First Battle": From "My Life with the Modocs"
Which appears to be about White men (and Joaquin Miller) who is also white going after Native Americans who ransacked their camp and supplies when they were not there in a place I think was called "Soda Springs". I'm not sure this is the same place called Soda Springs now though. But, there is a place called Soda Springs not too far from Castle Crags but it is on the opposite side of Interstate 5.
