The main advantage for me personally as an adult over 32 (now 72) is that I stayed a mystical Christian while adding Tibetan Buddhist practices in my life.
Because to Christians Buddhism is not considered a religion but rather a philosophy because supposedly Buddhists don't believe in God. However, this is debatable. because they do believe in angels and hierarchy in Heaven that goes all the way up to Vajrasattva (diamond Vow) and his consort Nyema who are the highest evolved Buddhas in the physical Universe before you get into the formless realms.
So, from my point of view of practicing Tibetan Buddhism since around 1980 with my first Tibetan Buddhist initiation in Ashland, Oregon what I found was that compassion is the most powerful path I know on earth.
Why?
Because if you have developed compassion for all life on earth as well as yourself you likely also have compassion for all life in the universe.
Therefore, if all life has become your family, you take care of your family because all life everywhere is your family. And because of this all life in the universe naturally trusts you with infinite sacred power and responsibility over time.
So, as you prove yourself worthy you are given more and more power and responsibility to help all life in the universe in the past, present and future ongoing forever.
