Water drunk from Streams and springs

This is one of the many things that I miss from the 1950s and 1960s. At that time in wilderness areas you could still safely drink from many brooks and streams without worrying about ghiarrdhea or about getting sick from drinking untreated water. So, often when I was hiking or walking in a wilderness area I would just cup my hand and use it to bring water up to my mouth or sometimes if I could stay dry doing it just lay down and suck the water up directly into my mouth. You could still do this many places in the U.S. safely up until the 1950s and 1960s. I suppose you still could many places but over time as water was tested people found deer and animal feces in water everywhere which often brought protazoa into most water sources which can cause ghiarrdea

There is also even in treated water out of taps these days in many cities organisms that can compromise immune systems and often even kill people with HIV.  This is why today it is important to have either reverse osmosis tippet in your kitchen for drinking water or to buy boiled and bottled water or to boil the water before you drink it in most cities in the U.S. today.
Because even clorination or fluoridation doesn't kill cryptocysts which compromise immune systems and sometimes even cause death in people with HIV.

These sporozoites invade the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Crypto may be spread by oocyst- laden, fecally-contaminated hands, surfaces, food and water.
As more and more people abound in ecosystems around the world water becomes more and more of a problem for everyone. In fact, in many if not most nations on earth, death by water born diseases account for most deaths, especially in children under age 5 worldwide.
So, it makes me long for a time now 50 years ago when I could still safely drink water from springs or small streams in remote places safely whenever I wanted to.

    Note: The problem with:

    Cryptosporidium

is that in most cities in the lower 48 and Hawaii above 50,000 people are going to experience it in their water supplies 1 to 3 months a year on average for all cities in the U.S. (some more some less) so I was giving you a heads up regarding this so you can choose to boil water, let it cool, and then put it in the refrigerator if you can't afford to buy bottled water or afford a reverse osmosis tippet in your kitchen sink for drinking water.

I personally NEVER drink tap water directly. However, I do brush my teeth with it and spit it out, boil water for tea with reverse osmosis water and also make spaghetti and noodles and pasta with regular tap water because I'm boiling it and I wash all veggies and fruits in either tap water or reverse osmosis water depending upon the volume of veggies or fruits I'm washing.

But, if you think you are immortal then do whatever you wish. I like to be practical and stay alive like I have the last 64 years.
