magnetic reconnection at the magnetopause is not as simple as it is described in textbooks

If I understand this passage correctly it means that the cracks in the magnetosphere are less predictable in reality than in theory in textbooks.

So as possibly when it breaks away it's reconnection(s) are not well understood at present. (in regard to the behavior of certain aspects of the magnetosphere as observed since about 2005 or 2006).

I'm obviously not a scientist whose specialty is this and not a scientist at all unless you consider armchair scientists (those interested but not with degrees in this subject are concerned). I'm just trying to understand all this better to ferret out better what we do know and what we don't.

I'm personally very concerned about human and animal genetics during this present magnetic pole shift on the sun. Because 11 years ago our magnetosphere was much stronger and protected us better and as far as we knew then did NOT have cracks in it like it does now. Because scientists are very clear that even out as far a Pluto will be affected a lot by the changes of the sun's magnetic poles during the next 3 to 4 months or so.

For example,   our north magnetic pole  on earth is moving now about 40 miles a year towards Siberia and increasing in speed on a yearly basis. What does that mean to life on earth in regard to genetic mutation in combination with shifting magnetic poles on the sun? I don't think humans are going extinct any time soon because of it but likely more mutations likely could occur because of all this combined with the Suns poles shifting places. And some species on earth (likely not humans) but those less resilient and smaller in size may go extinct from these changes because of increases in Cosmic Rays hitting living things on earth during this time.(especially through breaks, rents, and tears in the magnetosphere (During the next 10 to 20 years).

Also, my other question would be: "Are the increasing speeds of the magnetic north of Earth  indications of a Geomagnetic Excursion or a complete polar shift of magnetic poles, and if so or not what influence does the suns present magnetic polar shift have on all this?

I have not so far found useful answers to any of these questions. Someone might have a useful answer somewhere but so far I haven't found it. So, obviously more research is needed for humans to feel safer here on Earth. But, it is also possible that answers have been found and just like movies like "2012" and others, the answers aren't ones that the public could handle so they aren't given this information. So, at this point I'm not sure which the answer actually is or whether we just don't know the answers to any of these questions yet.
