Egypt is rich in culture and the Nile has always made Egypt rich in the past. However, now Egypt has a wonderful rich culture that many other sprang from but is suffering from a collapsed economy and overpopulation. When you add to this mix Islamics, Secularists and the Army and the historical governments of the last 5000 years you are only going to have trouble.
Because first of all there is no way presently to solve the problems of Egypt financially or food wise except by donations from other countries. So, just like many middle eastern nations overpopulation is the death of all future governments there. Without enough natural resources Democracies cannot function effectively or at all. So, you will likely see there either military dictatorships or Islamic states, both of which will naturally kill off all in opposition to them. But these governments will not be able to survive either simply because, "Any starving population or mob is only days away from a riot!" So, with this principle in place there is only suffering ahead long term for the people of Egypt because there are not the resources to satisfy enough people under 30 to keep any government from being overthrown.
So, the military's idea of allowing democratic rule likely will work but the likelihood is those governments will be overthrown one by one by the people over the years. The military will try to do this in order to prevent anger towards the military building up too much. However, they may already have gone too far and we may be seeing as a result another 10 or 20 year revolution in the works just like in Syria. This if it happens won't be good for anyone. The least amount of harm to the people of Egypt would be if the army allowed new democracies to form and then just took over if things got to crazy just like this time. It takes about 100 years or more for most nations to get democracy right so it actually works for most or all of the people. Democracy is the best system for ALL the people but it takes years for the checks and balances to be put in place for enough people to trust those checks and balances to work. Democracy has to work for the majority of the people or the people will overthrow any democratic government just like they overthrow all the others.
Another concerning thing to me is Al Zawahiri:
Ayman al-Zawahiri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ayman Mohammed Rabie al-Zawahiri (Arabic: أيمن محمد ربيع الظواهري ʾAyman Muḥammad Rabīʿ aẓ-Ẓawāhirī, born June 19, 1951) is an Egyptian physician, ...
News for al zawahiri
- BBC News - 5 days agoFormer US state department spokesman PJ Crowley looks at Ayman al-Zawahiri's al-Qaeda comeback bid and President Barack Obama's ...Let us not forget that Al Zawahiri the new leader of Al Qaeda after Bin Laden was killed is an Egyptian Medical Doctor who spent time in Cairo's prisons before becoming Bin Laden's second in command. So, he likely has a bone to pick with Egypt, his home country in regard to Al Qaeda. This might be important for people to think about in regard to what is actually happening in Egypt right now!I think this one fact might have a lot to do with how and why Islamists engineered this present bloodbath of their own people so they could become martyrs to their cause. And I think you have to look no further than Al Zawahiri to find an explanation of why what happened today happened today in Egypt.
