I was thinking today that some of the same kinds of skills needed to travel around the world in the present are the same skills needed to travel through time and to fit into cultures in all times. Obviously, if you look very different than people of those times you might have trouble just like people of different races might stand out in certain countries on earth now.
The biggest problem one might encounter in traveling time would likely be culture shock as well as organisms not found in one's native time. There is another problem which might be exposing people of that time and culture to things not found in that culture whether that be organisms, ideas or technology. Any one or all of these things might destroy potentially that culture. For example, Cortez and Pizzaro coming from Spain to Central and South America completely upset the balance of power in those regions and basically caused major cultural collapses as well as immunological collapses from bringing diseases like influenza, malaria and smallpox to people that might not have seen these diseases before.
So, time travel could be potentially catastrophic not only to those traveling time but could decimate whole cultures wherever in time or space they lived in.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
