Almost Human: Did J.J. Abrams' New Robot Cop Drama Wow Viewers or Disappoint?

Almost Human FOX
Almost a hit, or almost a miss?
Fox's newest fall drama Almost Human finally premiered tonight, introducing viewers to J.J. Abrams' latest addition in his plan to single-handedly take over the entertainment world. Starring Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, and Minka Kelly, Almost Human is a series set thirty-five years in the future when humans in the Los Angeles Police Department are paired up with lifelike androids. (Think Robocop, but with a lot less armor, and a lot more heart.)
We're intrigued to know your thoughts on Abrams' newest venture into the sci-fi sanctum. Did Almost Human leave you in awe or was it just plan awful? That is the question we're asking you in our latest Save It or Sink It poll...

In 2048 Los Angeles crime has risen 400 percent as a wave of dangerous drugs and weapons descended upon the city. Ruh-roh! In order to cope with the staggering amount of illegal activity, every officer is partnered with a MX-43, which is "an advanced, combat-model android." (And yes, they are just as badass as they sound.)
Produced by Abrams and Fringe's J.H. Wyman, Almost Human follows a futuristic odd couple. LAPD Detective—and MX-43s-hater—John Kennex (Urban) is paired with an outdated android model called a DRN, whose name is Dorian (Ealy). DRNs are more human than the MX-43s not only in appearance, but in psychology as they have been equipped with a "synthetic soul," thus allowing them experience human emotions.
The two officers initially bumped heads, however by the end of the series premiere we see that despite their polar-opposite personalities, they make a great team.

Almost Human is Fox's most recent attempt to transform a sci-fi drama into a full-fledged hit. Previous series, Alcatraz and Terra Nova did not make it past the 13-episode mark and Fringe had to fight each and every year in order to make it to season five. However, Sleepy Hollow, another sci-fi drama from Fox's new fall season, has managed to achieve both critical and audience acclaim with its captivating storyline and fun fish-out-of water characters. Can Almost Human do the same?
Abrams certainly thinks so! The TV and movie extraordinaire, recently told us that Almost Human is one of the most "unique" series on air today. "What I love about the show is it's great characters in an incredibly unique situation, so the world is something that doesn't feel like anything you've seen on TV," he explained.
With a stellar ensemble cast and Abrams at the helm, Almost Human has the potential to be the next big hit, but will you continue to watch? Vote in our latest Save It or Sink It poll and then head on down to the comments to discuss Almost Human with your fellow TV lovers.
