This movie is incredibly tongue in cheek which is how things were done then which is a way of sort of turning life into a cartoon. Helen Gurley Brown wrote this (who eventually became the CEO I believe of Cosmopolitan magazine). This movie is wonderful because Natalie Wood, Tony Curtis, Henry Fonda and Lauren Bacall are in it. But, laughing at ourselves a lot was what we did back then. However, then all the REALISM from 1965 to around 1975 came into movies until we all basically wanted to throw up from realism. But, somehow the caricature style of cartoon we watched before really never made it back in the mainstream. Also, this was a kind of breakthrough movie because the birth control pill had only become legal in 1960, 4 years before.
Natalie Wood is a 23 year old exceptional psychologist who has written a book called "Sex and the Single Girl". Tony Curtis is a conniving writer for a expose magazine trying to get the goods on Natalie Wood.
