I have noticed that people who don't have a focus or a discipline or something they care about often just sort of fade away and then they are dead.
So, having a reason to stay alive is really important. For example, becoming a Dad at 26 likely saved my life because I have always been a physical risk taker in my hobbies like Rock Climbing, dirt bikes (motorcycles off road), flying hang gliders and planes and piloting inside gliders, Hiking and traveling the world, swimming, SCUBA diving and free diving in places like Hawaii and La Jolla and other places etc.
But, some kind of discipline is necessary to stay alive. So, if you have something you care about and something that is a focus that is constructive it might keep you alive.
A friend of mine is single and playing the violin and learning a Paganini composition and he is 71. He also plays with the orchestra at his local community college and used to play in the Oakland Symphony when he was younger. He was telling me that learning to play well this Paganini composition since it was the recognized hardest violin piece was helping him have a focus so he wouldn't take his own life from being alone with his dog and his cat at this age. So, having a focus of something you care about might keep you alive longer and be good for you and your friends and family as well.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
