  • I saw this movie tonight and it has already been rated by viewers one of the top ten Dracula movies of all time. This is a new and interesting take on Dracula by bringing Vlad, the Impaler (a historical character of the movie as well as the traditional Dracula).

The real story of Vlad the Impaler, inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
    3. IN actual history Vlad, impaled hundreds of Turkish soldiers as a way to keep the Muslim religion from coming further into Europe than it did then. But, also in history the Turks eventually took their revenge on him by killing him. However, Europeans who are Christians also have Vlad to thank for being able to worship a Christian religion rather than being forced to worship Islam. So, though he is a very ruthless and in some ways an unthinkable character, he also kept most of Europe Christian too, which is why Europe is still mostly Christian today.
    4. This revisits these times which might be more appropriate as Christians and other minorities are being slaughtered in Iraq and Syria right now by ISIS which is also extremist Sunni Muslim like the Turks were in the 1400s when they came into Europe as far as Transylvania and met Vlad and his army in battle there. In some ways history is repeating itself as Sunni Muslim ISIS  Zealots try to wipe out all Christians, Shias, Yazidis, Turkmen and other minority religious and non-religious people in the Middle East today. So, the Turks were genociding Christians then in the 1400s and ISIS is today doing the same thing across the Middle East.
