I went out in my 4 wheel drive this morning to walk my dogs and was surprised when the temperature read 86 degrees which is what it actually felt like too. However, this is the northern California coast where this doesn't usually happen except a couple of times a year or so. Especially this year the fog keeps coming in and has consistently prevented the temperature from going above about 78 degrees on any day this summer I have been here.
So, today has to be the single hottest day of the summer that I have been here. Also, my 86 degrees Fahrenheit was at 11:30 am pacific time and not even during the heat of the day. However, here often the fog will come in in the afternoon which might be nice today before it hits 90 to 95 or something like that Fahrenheit.
One of the hottest places near the bay area is usually Morgan Hill which is now when I checked 88 degrees. Sacramento 84 degrees. 86 degrees in Redding. But only 69 degrees in Mt. Shasta. San Francisco 86 degrees which is about what it feels like here too. Santa Cruz 83 degrees.
These temperatures are as of 1:15 pm pacific time so they aren't even the hottest temperatures of the day yet.
Later: right now it is 1:30 and I got curious what temperature it is in Los Angeles: 95 degrees. Palm springs is a surprising 91 degrees (Usually it is about 10 degrees to 20 degrees hotter than Los Angeles year. Las Vegas is only 75 degrees. But, the San Fernando Valley is 96 degrees (home to Valley Girl Speak originally). For those of you from another country it is a distinct way of speaking like Surfer lingo and Cajon lingo and like certain southern dialects of English. They all make living in the U.S. much more colorful and interesting.
Later still: At 4pm the temperature in Morgan Hill is 96 degrees. Los Angeles 95 degrees. 92 in San Francisco (amazingly hot for San Francisco!). Because most people in San Francisco don't have air conditioners because usually they don't need them ever. Hollister 97. 97 in Gilroy. Paso robles 95. 89 in San Jose. 90 in Sacramento. 90 degrees in Redding.95 in palm springs. 92 in Borrego Springs.
Since where I live we don't have air conditioners either we put up a white blanket over one of our window doors that doesn't have a curtain. Even though we live in a well to do area people generally only have heaters and not air conditioners here because usually most years you might only need it one or two days a year at most. Either ocean air or ocean fog keeps the temperature below 70 to 75 mostly year around. I went out in my daughter's car and it said it was 87 degrees here.
Hollister: 97 at 5 pm: All the rest are going to be around 5 pm today: San Francisco 91. 91 in Los Angeles. Morgan Hill 94. San Fernando Valley 94. Orange, ca. 94. Riverside 97.
At least in Southern California most people have air conditioners. So, they should be okay with these temperatures there. However, the same isn't always true in Northern California because these temperatures are much more unusual especially along the coast where this much temperature usually brings in the fog and cools things down.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
