America's premier rail superhighway is slowly falling apart

It isn't just the rail superhighway falling apart, it is highways too that transport cars and trucks throughout our nation. Look closely and most of the bridges here in the U.S. and you will see rust that is not being dealt with. A band-aid here and there just isn't going to do it. Also, look at Natural gas mains dating back to the 1920s or before still in use throughout the U.S. and then you won't wonder why every so often there are explosions that kill 1 to 20 people throughout the U.S. too. The problem is: labor and materials to fix and improve are now cost prohibitive compared to just after World War II when most infrastructure was put in place before especially superhighways.

NEW YORK - The trains that link global centers of learning, finance and power on the East Coast lumber through tunnels dug just after the Civil War, and cross century-old bridges that sometimes jam when they swing open to let tugboats pass.
This is why Americans can't have nice trains
