Since my motorhome wasn't the best choice for driving up lower sand Flats road off of Everitt Memorial Highway up from the little City of Mt. Shasta, we drove up in my friend's car which is an all wheel drive. We went to the old trailhead that people used to take more up to Horse Camp and walked up the trail a ways. It was nice because my friend found some edible mushrooms (large ones) and so was very happy to find them. Two of them were fist size so he and his girlfriend were going to have them for breakfast this morning before they began their music tour south along Interstate 5.
Later, we drove out the upper Sand Flat Road and noticed it hadn't been graded for several years so there were many now dry rivulets that crossed the road about 2 feet deep and many uncovered rocks to be avoided on the road. Also, there were also campers (a few) various places camping at Sand Flats which likely is getting down to around the low 30s at night but was 70s today and for the next few days right now.
We also took a few pictures of the mountain from Sand Flats because it opens up enough to see the full majesty of the mountain like it also does at Bunny Flats where we went next.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
