Both Turkey and Saudi Arabia each for their own reasons now see bringing down Assad of primary importance and don't really care "How?" they are going to do it. The U.S. is now horrified about this because the likely outcome is someone like Al Qaeda or ISIS running Syria after Assad is thrown out and all the Shia Alawites massacred that don't escape by plane or boat. However, this is the direction this is all going now.
There is a proxy war between Iran and Syria against everyone Sunni at this point. And since Iran is supporting and giving weapons to the Houthi Shias in Yemen, Saudi Arabia is really really pissed off with Iran.
When will there be all out war with Iran either in Saudi Arabia or Iran?
This might not happen because nukes or serious chemical weapons might come out from Iran, Saudi Arabia or Israel or even Russia. So, expect proxy wars between Iran and Saudi Arabia and about 10 other Sunni nations including Turkey in many different countries but likely not in Iran, Turkey, or Saudi Arabia.
All hell is beginning to break loose between Sunnis and Shias throughout the middle East at this point.
