Shocks at Water Park in Florida

Since I spent many years in my teens working and installing electricity into homes and businesses summers mostly with my Dad I know a lot about getting shocked because when you work "hot" sometimes when you cannot turn the power off because a home or business needs that circuit on for one reason or another you are going to get shocked.

But, the kinds of shocks you usually get as an electrician are of the 110 variety (at least in the U.S.) and unless you are standing in water at the time you usually aren't going to die from. However, motors like they are talking about are often 220 or 440 or even 480 is more common on a motor. But then again when that much power dissipates through a big field of water it is less likely to kill you even if it is of the 480 variety which most large electric motors tend to run on. But the closer you are to the source and the better ground you have the more likely you could die from a shock like this.

But, the most troubling aspect of this was employees talking about being shocked so long continuously that their legs became numb. This could be a problem later in life and I'm surprised people thought their jobs to be more important than the nervous system we all use in all our muscles and neurons in our bodies and brains.

Though I have even been hit with 440 and possibly 480 I didn't get grounded long enough or I would have died then. And I have even burnt a screwdriver in half likely on 440 when I was about 14 or 15 in Los Angeles putting in a main panel hot for my father at KCET likely around 1962 or 1963. So, I have had spatters of melted screwdriver in little droplets all over my face from my screwdriver exploding like an arc welder rod melting in half. But, I would never stay in water that was numbing my legs for my job if I was working at a water park in Florida. Why?

Because you only have one body and once you have fried your nervous system in your legs or other parts of your body it might stop working before it's supposed to. In other words you might die before your time.
