Terra forming or Atmosphere forming?

I was trying to think about what you call it to remove excess carbon from the atmosphere to reduce Global warming here on earth. The term I have heard before is "Terraforming". However, we would not be changing the earth as much as the atmosphere so I think maybe "Atmosphere forming" might be a better term. However, when I look up the term terraforming it also seems to apply to changing the atmosphere as well. So, maybe terraforming the atmosphere is the way to say it?
