So, the only big nation left relatively unscathed on the mainland was the U.S. after World war II. So, we helped rebuild the world's nations which is why the U.S. became the world leader after World war II and also why the United Nations Headquarters is still in New York City here in the U.S.
It is also why the U.S. was so wealthy between 1945 and about 1973 when the Arab Oil embargo took place and threw a monkeywrench into U.S. prosperity at that point in combination with the Viet Nam War which also bankrupted the U.S. then. I believed in 1980 that our government would collapse from the bankruptcy of the Viet Nam War expenses. However, thank God I was wrong because then Europe and other countries loaned the U.S. money so we could keep going. All the good will of our helping other nations also helped us after Viet Nam. The worst thing that happened here as a result was the Savings and Loan collapse here in the U.S. which caused many suicides when people lost their life savings and had nothing left to live on, especially those already retired.
