Literally every chimney in Northridge was knocked down in the quake which is a whole lot of fireplaces and chimneys to be repaired. So, one of the most dangerous place to be standing when this quake hit was anywhere within 50 feet of any chimney on the ground.
A friend of mine at the time who was a friend of my wife's and I had to go repair his mother's chimney in Northridge at the time and came back to the SF Bay area and told me about this.
