Trump is the classic performer and Used Car Salesmen/ real estate salesman deal maker. Trump doesn't really care if anyone on earth lives or dies actually.
Whereas Erdogan is the "Bloodthirsty" type of Dictator who likes to kill people a lot.
So, it is possible that Erdogan might think he can take some of Syria away from Assad. But, I don't think Russia is going to let him do this for a variety of reasons.
So, while Russia murders ISIS prisoners (as many as they can along with their families) as long as it doesn't get into the news, Erdogan is going to try to make ISIS prisoners either directly or indirectly his new soldiers for killing Shia Muslims in Syria, Iraq and Iran.
On one level I understand why Trump wanted American Troops out of Syria because of the Turkish, Syrian Bloodbath over territory because this was bound to happen now that ISIS was at least temporarily contained.
Erdogan doesn't just want some Syrian Territory, he is going to take as much as he can while destroying Kurdish government and populations centers. So, his goal is the complete ethnic cleansing of Kurds here while stealing as much of Syria as he can while liberating ISIS Fighters to kill Shias in Syria and Iraq and Iran.
However, I think Russia, Iran and Assad and the Kurds are going to stop Erdogan soon and that he might greatly regret making an enemy of Trump as well as Trump decides to destroy the Turkish economy with Sanctions. Imagine the Trade war against China on Steroids against Turkey.
So, the end result of all this is that both Erdogan and Trump have bitten off way more than they can chew. It is looking really bad for both of them regarding all this. It is possible that both Erdogan and Turkey might be no more the way this is presently going because of Putin, Assad, Iran, Trump and the Kurds and all the rest. I think that Erdogan has no idea what he is in for at this point. Neither does Trump.
Erdogan is the New Saddam Hussein on the world stage (and we all know what happened to him).
