The best thing to do would be sort of what Bill and Melinda Gates have done worldwide with the Gates Foundation. They have researched ways to make their wealth make the world a better place.
However, if you are wealthy in the millions instead of the billions like the Gates, one way to help would be to find ways to start Non-profits to help people in your local area. The more wealthy people of all areas of the U.S. can find ways to help suffering people in various ways, the more likely we will not have a French revolution type scenario where the poor rise up and kill all the rich.
Because if you allow the poor to rise up and kill all the rich people then you have no one to blame but yourselves.
The best way I can think of is to try to find ways to provide opportunities for poorer people to rise up and become rich themselves through scholarships and grants etc.
Because "Give a person a fish and they live for a day. Teach a person to fish and they live for a lifetime".
Even though fish stocks in the oceans are quickly being depleted, if you teach someone a useful trade, often they can use this trade to support themselves, their children and sometimes their grandchildren on into the foreseeable future.

However, the kinds of trades people survived with during the Great Depression were like Carpenters, Electricians, Plumbers and other building trades. Often white collar job people starved to death even with multiple college degrees during the Great Depression because they couldn't find a job then. However, people ALWAYS will need carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other building trades to repair their homes and businesses as long as there is water and electricity and food available. Another trade people will always need is farmers. As a farmer you can also grow food to feed your own children too.
The point I'm making here is that if and when another Great Depression starts most white collar jobs will disappear until that Depression is over. And if it is worldwide this would also be true worldwide which is why I expect when there is another Great Depression worldwide that 1/2 of the population of earth likely would starve to death while it is going on, especially because of the long term effects of Global warming.
Because one of the major effects of global warming will be over 100 mile per hour winds that will literally blow away all leaves from all crops in those areas affected by those winds.
The winds of Global Warming are what mankind is least prepared for that I can see as an intuitive on the horizon that we will all face eventually.
Preparing for this eventuality will save many lives in the near and far future.
