So, in understanding HTML you also begin to understand things like Java in some ways too and other more recent programming languages for putting stuff on the Internet worldwide. So, the basis of actually programming information on the Internet is HTML. But, since there are many types of devices they needed something to translate between types of devices that can access the Internet worldwide and this is TCP/IP.
Another thing to better understand the Internet is TCP/IP or sometimes people break them down into TCP and IP separately.
TCP/IP is sort of like C3PO (from Star Wars) knowing 80,000 or 90,000 languages and being able to translate between them all. This is sort of the function that TCP/IP performs worldwide in regard to the Internet. In other words TCP/IP is sort of a translator for all the different electronic forms of communication possible worldwide that can still use the Internet now and into the future.
Whereas HTML is "Hyptertext Markup Language" which is the first Internet Language ever used regularly on the Internet to build web pages worldwide.
The Internet was originally developed by DARPA to create redundancy during nuclear war here in the U.S. so they had everything they needed to run the U.S. government at 30 or 40 cities nationwide from coast to coast, replicated 30 or 40 or more times so the knowledge needed to operate the U.S. government if all libraries in the U.S. were burned up would still exist some places in the U.S. on large computer mainframes. This redundancy factor allowed first Emails between colleges of professors and researchers which eventually turned into the Internet we now Know world wide at this point.
