If Coronavirus wasn't bad enough now we have thousands and thousands of people without homes in the western states including some people I actually know whose houses burned down. But, most (if they had good fire insurance) likely will rebuild. If they didn't have fire insurance then they might be homeless for a time or permanently depending upon their economic situation. If your home is paid for because you either paid off our mortgage or built it yourself so you didn't have a mortgage you aren't required to have fire insurance. So, people often don't buy fire insurance in these conditions. However, then if your home burns down you are basically homeless too which is difficult if not impossible for some people to psychologically survive or physically survive.
The same is likely true in the gulf of Mexico where people might not buy flood or hurricane insurance and become homeless for the same reason because they are retired and cannot afford fire insurance. I have a friend with a reverse mortgage on his house who was complaining because he didn't know a reverse mortgage would require fire insurance but it always does. And if you get a reverse mortgage in the Gulf States it also might require flood insurance and hurricane insurance too or other things I'm not aware of.
But, the point I'm trying to make here is that nothing is normal in the western states. But, then again nothing is normal worldwide either because of the coronavirus. But, when you compound catastrophes you are going to kill or maim many more people worldwide, including here in the U.S.
So, if you own your own home it might be a good time to either have fire insurance, Earthquake insurance, Flood insurance or whatever you need to survive these times we presently are having to live through.
And if you are renting you need Renter's insurance. This is important because when I was renting a house on the coast from 1985 to 1989 I had Renter's insurance and because my brand new video Camera that I used for a class at UCSC fell off it's tripod and was destroyed at home I was able to replace it with renter's insurance at that time too.
So, even if you don't own a home and are renting you want renter's insurance so you can replace all your things if you are burned out, Flooded out or tornadoed out of existence (your living quarters) no matter what state you presently live in.
