Opportunities to Survive

There is a 1950s joke about a man who is waiting for God to Save him which is very appropriate with the Coronavirus and fires and hurricanes and other disasters worldwide right now. I don't really find it that funny but it has it's message to us all in these times:

There was a man in a flood and he was standing on top of his barn and he believed that God was going to save him.

So, a man on a log drifted by his barn in the flood and said, "Jump on the log. I'll save you!"

And the man said, "NO. God is going to save me." So, the man on the log drifted by on the currents of the flood.

Next a man on a raft drifted by and said, "Jump on the raft! I'll save you!"

And the man on the barn roof said: "No. God is going to save me!"

Next a man in a rowboat drifted by and said, "Jump in the rowboat! I'll Save you!"

And then man on the barn roof said, "NO. God is going to save me!

Next a man in a huge Cabin Cruiser with a big engine came by and said, "Jump in my Cabin Cruiser. I'll save you!"

And the man said, "No. God is going to save me."

Next a helicopter came by and saw him and said on a loud speaker "Get in the basket we will save you!"

And the man said to them: "NO. God is going to save me!"

And the flood washed away the barn and the man drowned and went to heaven and spoke with God.

And he asked God why he hadn't saved him?

And God Said, "I sent you the man on the log, the man on the raft, the man in the boat, the man in the cabin Cruiser, and the men in the helicopter. Why didn't you save yourself with all the things and people I sent to save you?"

Also, this is out of the 1950s which is why there are no women saving the man. But, if it were appropriate to today the joke would have at least 1/2 of the men be women saving the man or more.

I'm just telling it like it was told to me in the 1950s when I was a boy to keep it more authentic to when I actually heard it.

Somehow, because Trump is president it's as crazy as it was in the 1950s now which is why I'm telling it this way because so many people now tend to think like the man in this story.

And like the man in the story many of them are either already dead now or soon will be.

So, telling this story is a great sadness for me for all the people who won't take all the opportunities God is giving them now to survive here on earth.
