There are fires to the east of Portland, to the east of Salem and to the east of Eugene, Oregon too

It's kind of strange that most of the larger cities in Oregon have fires to the east of them now. This part is very strange in a kind of strategic way as if someone set these fires in the hopes that the winds would blow westward and wipe out Oregon cities. But, the other side of this is all the lightning fires that started in Califronia and likely in Oregon too from 11,000 lightning strikes starting around August 12th I believe (of maybe it was the 9th because it was a Sunday if I remember correctly. I was up in Mt. Shasta and I don't think my wife had arrived at the cabin we rented for a month and I was outside in the clawfoot old bathtub under the huge port orford cedar up on the redwood deck cooling down. The owner had hot and cold water to this tub outside from two hoses there which is nice in the summer as a way to cool down from the 90 plus degree temperatures in August often (and sometimes July too) I remember watching the lightning strikes as they moved up the state but luckily that day we got enough rain to put out any lightning fires in the Mt. Shasta area so the air stayed clear.

So, these fires began with the 11,000 lightning strikes likely on August 9th including one small fire up by Castle Lake that day.

But, if we don't get rain these fires likely will continue for a long time or burn continuously until next Christmas or after in the rugged areas where no fire engines can go because they are wilderness areas throughout the Sierras and lower Cascades like Mt. Shasta as well as the Trinity mountains and coastal ranges as well. Much of the more rugged areas in California have no roads at all and can only be accessed on foot, mountain bike or helicopter so this makes it incredibly dangerous to be a fireman or woman stranded without a vehicle to escape when the winds change suddenly as they do in mountains and around canyons quite frequently during the days and nights.
