How pearl Harbor worked as far as triage went they used lipstick because women wore a bright red then. On the forehead of the Victims of the attack they wrote things like F for fatal (they won't recover) or M for morphine (he's in a lot of pain and need morphine) or other abbreviations for the problems they had that would be recognizable to the nurses and doctors. They didn't usually tell the patients these things though because they didn't want to send them into shock and die. So, if someone had an F on their forehead the doctors and nurses knew this patient was dying or dead already.
