Of course this might be somewhat different by tribe but when I studied with Charlie Thom who was a Karuk Medicine man and I Sweat with him in his Sweat Lodges between around 1983 until he passed away in the 2000s he spoke to me about them at one point likely around 1985. I had moved my family because my oldest stepson wanted to go back to public school and not live in the wilderness 10 miles from the nearest Gas Station anymore. So, we moved back to the GREATER SF Bay area and bought another business in 1985. This was good for the kids but not so good for my wife and I who were much happier living in the wilderness in the Mt. Shasta area so by 1994 about 10 years later we had broken up. However, the main factor was that my father passed away in 1985 and I realized when he died that I wasn't going to be with my then wife until I passed away and I was pretty upset because we had already been married 5 years and were raising her 2 children from her first marriage and my son from my first marriage. Then in the late 1980s we had a daughter who is related by blood now to all my children from 3 different wives which is interesting too.
But, what is important here to understanding the rock people is what Charlie Thom said about the rock people when they came to me one day in the Big Sur Area of California. At the time I thought it was strange that the rocks of the cliffs next to the ocean were talking to me. So, when I asked Charlie Thom about the Rock people he told me that his tribe had been inviting the Rock people into their sweat lodges for thousands of years already.
This is true in that the native American way is to build a fire and put rocks (that won't explode in the heat) into a fire and then put these heated to red often rocks into the pit in the center of the Sweat lodge and then to pour water over these rocks which creates a steam sauna inside the sweat lodge in the womb of mother earth. It's a place to heat up and get warm and to pray there usually in the dark with God and your medicine man or woman and all the people there.
Over time I realized that everything made of rocks or dirt including all metals and even computer chips were variations of rock people and I found I could communicate with all these forms of rock people from rocks to dirt to metal to computer chips to metal computers to cars to planes to ships to jet passenger planes to tools to everything. They all harken back to living in the ground together and having a certain stage of consciousness that they have lived in for millions of years.
So, in their natural state in the wilds they think of humans a lot like we think of flowers (Beautiful but soon they wilt and die) whereas the rocks go on forever and continue their consciousness.
Trees also think a little like this because mostly they outlive us too.
