When I was young people would say: "You have to RIP out bad qualities by the roots!"
But, then I studied Tibetan Buddhism which said, "There are always two sides to every quality. So, you emphasize the positive quality as a good Buddhist.
For example, I have always been known to be a very stubborn person but also conversely a very determined person which means once I was determined to take care of my children or to stay married to my present wife nothing was going to stop that in my life.
So, when you harness the positive aspects of all your qualities is when you become enlightened by doing this. For example, the word Yoga means "To Yoke" sort of like taking a water buffalo and training it to pull a cart while being saddled with a yoke to pull the cart. It's a way to self discipline yourself to do things to benefit not only yourself but also others along the way.
So, by discovering the positive side to all your qualities and moving into a more yogic discipline of your good qualities you become enlightened which is both to your benefit and to the benefit of society in general as well and to your children, your friends and your family.
This generally also brings happiness and peace not only into your life but into the lives of those around you as well.
By God's Grace
