Since there are many young people coming up right now and all of them are on the internet usually in one way or another, one choice might be to learn HTML and all the languages related to it like Java and others since you are likely going to be online anyway and HTML is the basic Online language. All other related languages have to be compatible with it because it set the stage for there to actually be the World Wide Web in the first place.
If you don't understand how the World wide Web started it began through Darpa which is:
Darpa has been doing research of various kinds for a long time now. So, Government researchers in universities all over the world started something like email so that they could more easily share their researches with each other worldwide.
This eventually over time evolved into Emails as more and more people in colleges around the world used it. And then from there the redundancy computers that they had 100 or more in cities around the country in case of nuclear war became the basis of the redundancy necessary to have an internet that spans the whole globe.
This then evolved into servers who duplicate websites all over the world so you don't have to get a site from 23,000 miles a way and hopefully it will be only 1000 miles or less away from you instead. This makes access to any website worldwide almost instantaneous from almost any location on earth.
Though there are many other programming languages used for other purposes like Science and Mathematics and Online Video Gaming there are other choices for languages to learn in the computer programming arena as well.
