I knew I didn't want my wife watching me and potentially "worrying" me to
the point of falling off the ladder. So, whether I'm going up on the roof or on
a ladder I usually don't tell my wife about it and just do it and then I'm done
in around 5 or 10 minutes of intense concentration towards my ongoing survival
while doing this. Of the two the roof is the most dangerous. So, I am really reticent
regarding going on the roof. The only time I can remember doing this was to save the life
of a local hummingbird who had flown through an open door and into our kitchen which
has a skylight above it. The little bird kept banging itself all day trying to get through the
skylight glass to no avail. I had tried to get it with a broom to come down and go out a door
to no avail. By the end of the day I knew it would die there unless I did something. So, when
my wife wasn't looking I climbed up on the roof and opened the skylight up but the little bird
had given up hope. I was getting tired holding up 50 to 100 pounds with one hand and with my
other hand I nudged the little birds butt and this got his attention and he flew at roof level out the
opening finally and across the street into a pine tree. IF he could just survive the night he had survived
to live another day. What is interesting was that my wife was talking hands free with a friend in
my truck in the driveway and saw the little bird fly across the street and cried. But, luckily she didn't
see me on the roof. That was a good thing so I quickly re-attached the skylight to the roof and climbed
down before she noticed I was up there.
That she found out later was a good thing for both of us. :) (SMILE)
