I normally like to keep the WD-40 in the back of my truck though in case it gets too hot outside because it's already compressed and you don't want it exploding in your car or something. But, I also keep Duct tape and in the old days I would also keep wire or an old fashioned hanger (the wire ones) for helping people that broke down on the road.
WD-40 is good for putting it into your locks on most cars or trucks so they don't rust up after the rainy or snowy seasons. I also use it on hinges on doors in my house especially the outdoor hinges on outdoor doors to keep them from squeaking over time.
Duct tape can be handy in case anything comes loose that doesn't get too hot on your car especially if you have a used car and need to keep something attached better to your car or truck. The old fashioned hanger might also help you get into your older car if you forget your keys or lock them inside (even though many people have a FOB now instead.
I really don't like FOBs simply because of a large SUV I rented on Kauai about a 1 year and a half ago before Covid. The problem is I wasn't used to FOBs and couldn't get the thing to lock itself fully. Then after worrying about this for about 20 minutes because I couldn't get it to lock I realized that I had to be about 100 feet away from the vehicle for it to completely lock. So, I walked about 100 feet away from the vehicle with the Fob and laid it on a beach picnic table on Kauai and then locked the car from that distance and left the fob there at a distance and finally the SUV locked (I think it was a Denali or something like that.
However, we were looking at a car that my wife likes where you have to get a FOB when you buy one. However, the last car we were able to order a key car because we didn't want a FOB on the last new one we bought 3 years ago now.
But, Duct Tape and WD-40 can help you a lot with hinges and locks keep them working and Duct tape I recently made a PVC pipe into a hook to get a ball next door over the fence that my 3 year old grandson threw by duct taping a hook on the end of a PVC pipe to get the ball he threw next door. The next door neighbors have a Great Dane Dog and I didn't want to have to deal with him getting a ball my grandson threw over the fence.
I have also made all sorts of temporary tools for getting things off the roof or taping a squeegee to a long PVC pipe to clean the top of my old motor home as well more easily. So, Duct tape you can do all sorts of things with to make temporary tools for doing all sorts of things around the house.
And of course WD-40 lubricates everything but also you have to be concerned about lighting it on fire because it is flammable because it is a type of oil so it burns too. So, be careful of that.
So, WD-40 and duct tape are great to have with you when you travel for emergencies as long as it isn't too hot a day (over 90 or 100) because the WD-40 is compressed after all and it can be flammable too under the right conditions. But, I still keep it in the back of the bed of my truck because it is away enough from all passengers in the vehicle so even if it exploded from the heat of a 90 plus or 100 plus Fahrenheit day it likely would be okay.
In my truck I usually now carry all the time a 12 volt electric tire inflator, a 12 ton hydraulic jack, Jumper cables, life vests for going on a boat or kayak, and all sorts of other stuff for emergencies of different kinds. In my Truck door I usually keep 1 or more screwdrivers, pliers, a pair of either channel locks or crescent wrench etc. for any kind of emergencies I might encounter on the road or out in the bush 4 wheel driving somewhere too. I also carry 2- 12 volt electric inflators to inflate inflatable kayaks too.
If you've ever been stuck with a vehicle broken down in bad weather or other situations you tend to get prepared so you don't get in that situation again.
After living 73 years you learn a lot about surviving all sorts of situations in your life from experience.
