But, it is a very tall bike so it has more clearance when you go over fallen trees or rocks and it has a plate to protect the engine underneath it in case you go over a large rock or fallen tree or tree stump in the wilds and other things. It takes a little to get going because it is so tall so it isn't as easy to balance as a shorter bike like the kind used mainly on the street without knobby tires. But, by the time you are going 5 to 10 miles per hour it stabilizes even though it is tall. There's another reason to have a tall bike it's so you can throw the bike between your legs for faster turns on wilder roads when riding off road. The KLR 650 is a thumper also which means it has a single cylinder for faster throttle response. I prefer a 4 cycle engine too because I don't have to worry about mixing gas an oil and I don't care for the whining loud sound of 2 cycle engines either. However, it is true they have more power per CC if that's what you want but then you also have to put up with the smell of burning oil and the sound of a 2 cycle engine too.
So, everyone has their preferences for riding both on road and off road so it is very individualistic.
