However, I've been in 117 to 123 degrees Fahrenheit many times. There are things you have to worry about at these temperatures like blowing out your windows, especially if you have a new car that is airtight. So, above about 110 to 115 degrees often you leave your window open a little so the back window doesn't explode in the heat. You can also put shades over the front window as often this keeps the heat in the car lower. I've gotten into my car in Palm Springs for example just to turn the engine on and run the air conditioner a little before I stay in it because your car might be 150 degrees or more inside especially if you had the windows closed in the sun. So, the steering wheel is going to burn your hands and the seats too very often. So, you have to plan ahead to make sure you can get the air conditioning working quick enough so you don't pass out in the heat before the air conditioner cools the car down enough for you to start to be comfortable. So, parking your car in the shade or inside a garage of some kind is very helpful too.
When rolling blackouts occur because of temperatures this high you sort of want a car to get into with air conditioning so you don't pass out trying to find someplace cool enough to be in the meantime too. Planning ahead will keep you alive longer in heat this strong.
As long as you are planning ahead for your health and longevity often you will survive all these things. But, if you are silly and not thinking and planning clearly this is when people often get heat prostration or even die in high temperatures.
It's true that places like Death Valley and Palm Springs are usually very dry so you can have a better chance of surviving temperatures this high because if it was humid people would just drop dead in temperatures like these otherwise.
