Knobbies just means off-road tires. You see 4 wheel drive trucks and off road vehicles with off road tires too but on motorcycles they are often called "knobbies" because of the knobs of rubber you see on them.
A Dualsport usually comes standard with knobbies and you need these when riding off road for extra traction to keep you from laying down your bike unexpectedly. However, if you are riding on a freeway you have to be very careful of the fact you are riding on knobby tires. For example, you cannot lay down your bike almost to the pegs on a turn safely usually because you don't have enough constant rubber on the road to safely do this. So, when on a freeway or regular paved road just remember you have knobbies on board and not racing street tires and you will be fine.
Also, a tall Dualsport doesn't handle like a regular motorcycle at all because it is designed for completely different things than a street motorcycle is designed for. So, be aware of this when you switch back and forth between a street motorcycle and a dualsport or off road motorcycle so you stay in one piece.
Also, I understand that there are exceptions to every rule like the Harley Davidson rider in the Terminator 2 movie who jumps his bike from the street into the L A River about 10 or more feet down which would break the back and kill most people who tried doing this but remember this is a stunt rider trained to somehow survive stuff like this too. In real life it might take the metal spine of a terminator to actually survive doing something like this even with a Harley. Anyone else might never walk again.
