"These are the times that try men and women's souls worldwide"
I don't think there is any one I know that would disagree with this statement right now on earth.
In the past younger people shied away from religions in general since the 1970s and 1980s simply because of Islamic Terrorists and to a much lesser degree Christian Terrorists like Timothee Mc Veigh who killed 168 people including 19 children in 1995 in Oklahoma in A Christian Terrorist Attack on the Government.
So, most people are looking now for "Spiritual Relief" from all of this. Less people are turning to drugs instead of Spiritual relief simply because of how many have overdosed in the past few years time. People are beginning to get that drugs are mostly fatal and unless your choice is to be dead then you should stay away from Drugs if you want to live.
So, just like the 1950s and before people are turning towards "Spiritual relief" for sustenance. However, the world is different than the 1950s when people chose organized religion for relief. Less than 40% of Americans choose organized religion now compared to around 60% to 80% in the 1950s.
In fact, I grew up in the 1950s and people had to be very careful what they said or they might not have a job in regard to what they believed or didn't believe then. It just wasn't safe at all to admit you were an atheist or agnostic even then in the 1950s.
Even in public school in the 1950s on Tuesdays kids were taken direct from public schools to their church for a type of mid week Sunday School I guess you could call it. My church was too far away that my parents were ministers for so I just stayed in my classroom during these events when I was in grade school.
So, you can see how much things have changed even here in California where I went to public school from 1953 until 1965 and then I graduated from a private school in Sant Fe, New Mexico from high school.
People need spiritual relief and so they are going to get it through prayer, meditation, contemplation, lucid Dreaming visualizations of divinity or however they can get it.
But, it isn't going to look anything at all like the 1950s looked like because of how much people have changed now especially in California.
