Writing about what you are processing

I find that writing about whatever things I'm trying to deal with in life often is helpful. Things come up and you have to find a way through whatever it is. People in your life get sick and sometimes die and you have to find a way to survive this for your own sake and for the sake of your children and family and grandchildren and friends.

So, writing is one way you can self counsel by allowing things to arise from your subconscious mind enough to process them.

In the past, for example, my mother's World War II saying was: "Do what you can and the rest Can".

Now, don't get me wrong this philosophy got her to age 90 and her mother and 2 sisters also to 90.

However, I believe it is healthier to try to figure out everything you can so you don't have to CAN anything really.

If you are self counseling through writing how does this work?

This is what I have noticed: When you write something you are one person but when you read what you write often you are another person with new experiences by then. Because the two of you are different in that one of you has more experiences than the other you can often move forward just having stated what was bothering you about something.

So, by writing you multiply your chances for ongoing survival daily as you write and then your next self in time read these writings. Also, you perfect your writing skills by doing this too.

Once you get used to doing this you might not need to see a therapist at all or as much either. Because in the end a therapist does not live inside your body or mind, You do.

So, in the end, the best therapist for you often is you in the future.
