It looks like the Super El Nino is just getting off the ground with flooding to our south. Luckily we are up on a hill about 300 feet elevation off the ocean so we don't have to worry like many people do in southern California of their houses on the beach washing away though.
So, though it is raining a lot here we won't experience flooding like many other areas will. However, anywhere along the California coast if you aren't used to living around the ocean it's time to stay off the rocks so you don't get washed into the ocean because you will likely be dead without a wet suit like surfers wear in about 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour if you are swept into the sea. You would first get hypothermia and then start hallucinating within 15 minutes to 30 minutes and when this happens unless someone rescues you then you are soon dead.
So, don't climb up on rocks to see the pretty ocean waves which are spectacular right now unless you want to die soon.
Even if you are on the beach you need to be watching the waves so you can run from them before they get you. About every 7th big wave or so could come up and get you and wash you off the beach.
So, during a storm you have to be watching every second.
Even I after living near a beach most of my life and being a surfer and SCUBA diver and snorkler and boogie boarder most of my life have almost been swept out to sea many times when I wasn't looking closely enough at the waves. ONe time my daughter said, "Climb up on these rocks Dad the waves look bad. Even though I climbed upon top of 4 to 5 foot high Rocks the waves still got me and I barely was able to preven myself from being washed away because the water still came up to my hips.
I also have almost lost my dogs to this kind of surf too because I was too busy thinking about them and not busy with watching what the waves were doing at the time.
So, unless you are watching the surf every moment when you are on a beach you shouldn't be there during a storm like this at all.
