When I discovered this I was in my 20s. I realized that each of us is the sum total of all the accomplishments and dna of all our forebears back 1000s of years. I thought of all the sacrifice necessary by relatives now unknown to me. But without their sacrifice (thousands and thousands of them) I would not be here today.
When I looked at our virtues and our failings I began to see them as two sides of the same coin. That each is a quality that can be used for good or ill. So, it is all a matter of presenting the quality that helps both yourselves and all mankind. To present the correct side of every dna coin gives help and allows the human race to create a heaven on earth ongoing. The real purpose of civilization is to create a heaven here on earth.
So, understanding your part in creating a heaven for yourself and all others might be your present purpose in life.
