I had asked the question: "Is a microwave oven a Faraday Cage" because I was curious if this was really true. it turns out that this is somewhat true. However, then I started reading the details of this answer and started to realize that a microwave oven if it isn't on already could protect a cell or smart phone and a laptop from being erased completely by an EMP if it wasn't too strong which is an interesting concept in itself. Because in an Electromagnetic pulse from a nuclear blast or from the Sun would erase all magnetic Media on earth above 10 feet underground which means that all magnetic Media (all computer memory) and operating systems) would be permanently gone and unusuable ever after.
So, as crazy as this sounds storing a laptop and a Cell or Smartphone inside of a Microwave oven when it is not being used might be a good idea. However, it you turn it on it also might kill your smartphone or laptop as well. So, in this sense it is a complete paradox.
Interesting idea. So, if you have an old microwave you are not using just cut off the cord so it can never be plugged in and use it as a storage device to prevent an EMP from destroying everything you are doing?
This might just work
