Why?
Because if the grid goes down you will need one for your refrigerator and your air conditioner. If you go buy one be sure to check what load (electrically both your air conditioner and refrigerator draw.) Also, wherever you place your generator be sure it is shaded from the sun or likely your generator could overheat in this kind of weather. But, at these times you have to have contingency plans to keep your family and friends alive when it gets like this here in the U.S.
And if it is this bad now what is August and September going to be like this year? And the next?
Where is the nearest air conditioned store or mall for your family. What water is safe for them to cool down in? Do you have ice in the freezer so if they don't have air conditioning that they can blow a fan over ice like they did in the 1930s and 1940s?
Once someone loses the ability to think in the heat it is pretty easy for them to die if they are older especially and don't have much fight left in them for ongoing survival like younger people tend to.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
