From my point of view it's all about your respect for life in it's infinite forms. As you develop your relationships with beings why not also develop your relationships with all things from cars, to planes, to homes, to tools of all kinds, to computers, to robots, to everything?
It's mostly a matter of choice.
However, developing ethics around all this can be the most difficult thing in the end.
However, EVERYTHING communicates.
The point being:
Sometimes communicating with not only all beings but also all things might save your life or the lives of your family.
