Under normal changes we should see one record high temperature change for every record low temperature change.
But since 2000 this has not been the case. In the first decade of this century we saw 2 record highs for each record low. In 2011 there were 3 record highs for each record low. But in 2012 there were 5 record high temperatures for each record low in the U.S. In 2012 1 out of every 3 Americans had to deal with temperatures at or above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for at the very least 10 days this last year.
This along with a historic drought that grips over 1/2 of the U.S. and is still going on today here in January 2013.
Also, Australia today received a record 122 degrees Fahrenheit temperature which is a part of the problem they are having with fires in Australia and Tasmania.
