To Bodhgaya by Horsecart: 1985
In December 1985 we attended the Kalachakra Initiation for 500,000 people in Bodhgaya, India given by the Dalai Lama. We found a great place to stay at Magadh University nearby and found a horsecart and driver that gave us a good price to take us there in the morning and to pick us up at night. Because of the way he was dressed and because it was late he asked us one night if he could take us by his village before the general store closed. There was no electricity there so everything was lighted by Alladin types of lamps. It could have been 1000 or even 2000 years ago the way it looked there. We felt like we were in a movie about 1000 or 2000 years ago and were completely amazed riding this horsecart with a native driver dressed like people did a 1000 years ago or more ago as he went to his ancient general store to buy grain and food for his family.
